2024 Hurricane Advisory
As Florida closely monitors this year's hurricane track, multifamily owners and managers face the challenge of providing residents with information and support while protecting their properties. Here are some recommendations from apartment associations and management companies with hurricane experience:
- Monitor local media for weather updates and emergency information.
- Collect emergency contact numbers from residents, and ensure they know the correct number to call for community updates.
- Provide contact information for all team members, including a designated management contact person.
- Ask residents to move furniture, plants, and other items from patios and balconies indoors.
- Advise residents to fill bathtubs with water for flushing toilets if needed. Even those evacuating may require water supplies upon their return.
- Encourage residents evacuating to remove perishable food from refrigerators to avoid spoiled food in the event of a prolonged power outage.
- Drain pools by about two feet and move pool furniture, trash cans, and outdoor seating indoors. Clear stairwells and walkways of any items.
- Open property access gates, as they may become disabled during a power outage.
